One of the biggest ways MBSA improved our program in 2025 was with the addition of new off-the-water offseason events. Lead by new board member Chris Lubeck, these events all had a singular focus, aligned to the MBSA Mission: Increase participation in the sport of sailboat racing. Here’s a recap of the year in events so far.
The Committee has been active with over 9 new meet & greets and training/seminars since January for the Mass Bay Sailing Community. We have had events ranging from knot tying with Fran Charles, US Sailing new Racing Rules of Sailing basics in April, too our Season Kick Off Parties at Savin Hill YC and Eastern Yacht Club in May. Yes, we have gotten so much interest, we now offer North Shore/Boston and South Shore/Boston venues. We also got our sailors involved in the Northeast Ocean Race Symposium, North Sails Trim & Tactics seminars and currently in “Build a Better Crew” – Dave Dellenbaugh’s Speed & Smarts Webinar Series. With over 300 participants at our events and over 25 new sailors joining our Sailing Community – THANK YOU for your support and passion to grow our sport.
The MBSA Events/Growth Committee is focused on three objectives:
-
Grow the Mass Bay Sailing Community
-
Increase and be proactive on communications
-
Increase regatta participation
It has been a great start as we have added 3 more people to our Committee: JuLee Colella (Boston YC), Ryan Wagner (Constitution YC) and Ryan Murphy (Savin Hill YC). And we are in the process of adding more committee members to bring more younger sailors and women sailors into our sport. If you are interested in joining our committee, please reach out to us. Plus, we would like a representative from Hingham Bay Racing.
We are targeting more meet & greets in the off season to keep the Mass Bay Sailing Community getting wicked smaaaart and growing. If you have a topic we should have a seminar on, please reach out. We are also planning more events in Boston – great turn out at the Racing Rules of Sailing Boston event.
Looking forward to to seeing all of you on the water this season,
Chris, JuLee, Ryan and Ryan
